Houston is one of the great cities in Texas, offering intriguing places to visit and enjoy the local culture. After a long day of sightseeing the nightlife of Houston provides ample fun diversions. Stop by the rodeo for some horse wrangling and competitive barbecue, the Galleria mall to get some pretty new clothes then head down to Kemah Boardwalk for some good old fashion fun.
RodeoHouston is the biggest livestock show and rodeo in all of Texas. The rodeo takes place in Reliant Park and they host events in the stadium. Major celebrities from the world of country music have played RodeoHouston including Brooks & Dunn, Reba McEntire, Garth Brooks, Lynyrd Skynyrd and even the king himself, Elvis Presley. The World’s Championship Bar-B-Que is also hosted at the RodeoHouston. It is a three day event known as ‘the Cookoff’ and while the competition is invitation only the judging (read: eating) is open to the public.
Fashionistas know that the Galleria Mall is the place to go for upscale attire. The Galleria is recognized as the number one shopping destination in Houston. This mall features rich architecture and is built out of three types of wood and nine types of stone. It is the seventh-largest mall in America and has an ice rink and a pair of upscale hotels located within the mall. With over 375 stores, expect to shop all day in the Galleria.
If old-fashioned carnival fun sounds good then the Kemah Boardwalk should be the next stop. With an assortment of rides for the whole family such as the carousel and Ferris wheel, the Kemah Boardwalk is a Texas-sized party every day. They have plenty of restaurants to choose from for any taste whether it’s seafood from Joe’s Crab Shack, down home Texas food from Salt Grass Steakhouse or even sushi at Red Sushi. Kemah is also home to the speedboat Boardwalk Beast. This boat runs at about 40 miles per hour and can seat 140 people on board for some high speed sightseeing. Of course, the food is top-notch carnival fair like corn dogs, funnel cakes and fried everything.
