There is an endless supply of beauty within the New York Botanical Garden. There are over 250 acres of uniquely decorated, majestic landscapes each having its own theme.  The New York Botanical Garden is the largest botanical garden in the United States.  On the premises are 50 acres of native forest and 50 well maintained gardens: each garden is a separate work of living art some with stunning displays, many of which were created by famous architects and designers some dating back as old as the 1840’s.  Each season at the Botanical Garden, brings new kinds of blooms on a variety of plants and trees.  There’s always something to see and experience that you probably won’t get through the whole 250 acres in one day.

The Enid A. Haupt Conservatory opened within the New York Botanical Garden in 1902.  The conservatory is the largest Victorian-style glasshouse in the United States.  Here you can experience environments of a tropical rainforest, the dry heat of a desert, and other landscapes which are constantly turning over new leafs, new blossoms, and new foliage. It is home to what has now become a permanent exhibition – “A World of Plants”; an exhibition which leads you through two kinds of rainforest, carnivorous plant life, aquatic plant life, the deserts of both Africa and America, and much more.

CitySights NY
Located in the Southern-most part of Brooklyn is one of New York’s best known attractions, Coney Island.  It is the birthplace of the very first Nathan’s Hot Dog stand which was opened up in 1916 by a polish immigrant named Nathan Handwerker.  Coney Island is known as more of an Amusement Area rather than an Amusement Park due to the fact that the rides and attractions are all owned and operated by different businesses located separately throughout Coney Island.   Rides and attractions are opened seasonally – so check out the website to see what’s open so you can plan your trip accordingly.  Other attractions however, are opened year-round such as the Coney Island Museum, open every Saturday and Sunday from Noon to 5pm as well as Coney Island’s beautiful beach and boardwalk.  The beach is practically 3 miles long and has recreational activities such as volleyball, handball, basketball, playground areas, and some amusement rides to make sure you have fun in the sun.

The New York Aquarium is a seasonal attraction open during the summer from May 23rd to September 7th.  The museum is a fun and exciting way to learn about our oceans and aquatic life.   Some of the things you can expect the museum are daily feedings for Sea Lions, Penguins, Sharks, Sea Otters, and Walruses as well as a touch-pool which allows you to feel starfish, horseshoe crabs, and other small creatures of the sea.  You can also embark on a 4-D digital movie experience which appeals to the senses by shooting out fragrances, wind, and mist as you learn about the shallow seas.   Located very close to the Museum is the Cyclone – the world famous Wooden Coaster, make sure to check it out. The state of the world’s economy seems to be heading for an all-time low in recent times, causing an increase in the cost of practically everything around us, including airfare. This is certainly not good news for recent retirees who are planning to spend their leisure time traveling to different parts of the world. With the current prices of regular airplane tickets these times, it won’t be long before you drain out your retirement fund. Fortunately, there are many travel companies that offer cheap air travel for seniors in their packages.

Some people would automatically assume that when talking about cheap air travel for seniors, this means flying in economy seats with mediocre food and service. Because of this idea, a lot of people would just grit their teeth and pay for regular tickets, even if they have to stretch their budget in order to accommodate the expenses.
